Wearable Art Trouvé at The Feuerle Collectionon the occasion of Berlin Art Week and World Cleanup Day 2024September 13, 2024
The Feuerle Collection is proud to continue its tradition of combining artistic innovation with environmental consciousness through Wearable Art Trouvé, an event held in conjunction with World Cleanup Day and Berlin Art Week. Curated by Daniel Yu, this occasion brings together avant-garde fashion and sustainability within the total artwork of The Feuerle Collection, curated by Désiré Feuerle.
This immersive event presents the works of independent designers Selva, Maria Chany, and Perlensau, each renowned for their pioneering approaches to ethical fashion. These designers operate at the intersection of art and ecological responsibility, transforming industrial remnants, discarded materials, and upcycled objects into wearable forms that challenge the conventions of contemporary fashion while celebrating sustainability.
Among the standout designers, Cristian Huygens – working under the pseudonym Selva – offers a raw, brutalist vision of the future, repurposing car parts and metal hardware into striking garments reminiscent of armor and shields. His work, which has drawn international acclaim, combines utilitarian function with an unmistakable aesthetic of resilience.
Maria Chany reimagines the possibilities of eco-conscious fashion through the use of bio-based materials and industrial waste, such as surplus denim zippers and car tire tubes, while maintaining a commitment to minimal waste and ethical production practices. Her designs fuse sustainability with a refined elegance that redefines contemporary fashion.
Perlensau emphasizes longevity and durability, rejecting fleeting trends in favor of timeless craftsmanship. Using vegetable-tanned leather, recyclable PVC, and nickel-free stainless steel, the brand showcases the potential for fashion to serve as both a durable art form and a statement of solidarity, sourcing materials from Ukraine to contribute to a resilient global community.
Daniel Yu is a fashion show and art director, known for his work at Berlin Fashion Week, where he directed the show for Maria Chany’s collection “Terraforming.” Other recent contributions include his work for “Rise of the Bengal Tiger”, a trade and investment summit where he art directed and choreographed a heritage fashion show for a UNESCO fair culture expert fashion designer.
He had also curated a fashion performance challenging paradigms around gender, sexuality, race, and culture at the inaugural project and exhibition of ‘Geisted’, a 360 platform for digital art, NFT, and WEB3 applications.
Oz John is a Berlin-based advertising, editorial, and fashion photographer. He worked in advertising as an art director in multinational companies e.g., The Coca-Cola Company, Publicis, and Euro RSCG for the brands including Coca-Cola, Nokia, Peugeot, Philips, Johnson&Johnson, Guerlain, and Clarins. Oz John is also an academic PhD with over 20 years of teaching in universities.
Philipp Buddemeier is a seasoned sustainability expert with over 20 years of experience at the intersection of business, innovation, and sustainability. He is the Founder and CEO of Better
Earth, guiding businesses towards a future-fit economy, and a Co-Founder and General Partner at Marvelous, a DeepTech Fund for Climate Solutions, where he serves as Chief Impact Officer.
The event also extends beyond the walls of The Feuerle Collection. In alignment with World Cleanup Day, the public is invited to participate in a cleanup of the Landwehrkanal banks, fostering a deeper connection between the art of fashion and the natural environment. The Feuerle Collection has proudly participated in World Cleanup Day for many years, reinforcing its dedication to environmental action.
Founded in 2016 by Désiré Feuerle and Sara Puig, The Feuerle Collection remains committed to bridging the connection between different cultures and time periods, with a particular emphasis on the link between East and West. Through ongoing initiatives, the Collection continues to foster meaningful connections between art and sustainability.
This event is made possible with the generous support of Better Earth and REMONDIS, who share The Feuerle Collection’s dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
