The Feuerle Collection is proud to present Natural Beauty. Curated Nature<\/strong>, a new temporary exhibition curated by D\u00e9sir\u00e9 Feuerle for The Feuerle Collection Silk Room. This installation juxtaposes unseen pieces from the institution\u2019s permanent collection with natural objects<\/strong>, exploring both the artistic and the organic. Highlighted are a Chinese scholar table<\/strong> from the 16th-17th century, made of locust tree wood (Sophora japonica), and an Imperial Chinese \u201cFu\u201d (<\/strong>\u798f<\/strong>, good fortune) plaque with calligraphy by an unidentified Qing-Dynasty Emperor (18th century)\u2014symbols of great blessing and luck<\/strong>. This exhibition introduces a series leading up to the 2026 10th Anniversary of The Feuerle Collection<\/strong>, each offering a unique, immersive experience into D\u00e9sir\u00e9 Feuerle\u2019s curatorial vision and presenting unseen pieces of his collection.<\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>In ancient China, scholars and officials cherished the ideal: \u201cTo worry before the world worries, and to rejoice only after the world rejoices\u201d (\u5148\u5929\u4e0b\u4e4b\u5fe7\u800c\u5fe7\uff0c\u540e\u5929\u4e0b\u4e4b\u4e50\u800c\u4e50).<\/p>\n

The table\u2019s minimalist design and rich patina exude refined elegance, reflecting the cultural heritage of Chinese design. Known scientifically as Sophora japonica<\/em>, locust tree wood\u2014the material from which this painting table is crafted\u2014is a symbol of prosperity and wealth in Chinese culture.<\/p>\n

The proverb \u201cA locust tree in front of the door either attracts treasure or brings in wealth\u201d (\u95e8\u524d\u4e00\u68f5\u69d0\uff0c\u4e0d\u662f\u62db\u5b9d\uff0c\u5c31\u662f\u8fdb\u8d22) underscores its significance.<\/p>\n

Its dense, durable wood, though challenging to work with, has been prized in traditional Chinese craftsmanship for centuries, making the scholar table valuable not only for its function and design but also for the special material from which it is made, and conveying a feeling of creative abundance.<\/p>\n

Imperial \u201cFu\u201c Plaque: Good Fortune<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u201cFu\u201d (\u798f) plaque features calligraphy by an unidentified Qing Dynasty Emperor, symbolizing great blessing and luck. This red and gold lacquered round tablet, showcasing the \u201cFu\u201d character, is a masterpiece of Qing Dynasty artistry. During that period, the Manchu Emperors valued calligraphy, and their creations were highly esteemed. This tablet, resembling the strokes of Emperor Qianlong (\u4e7e\u9686), stands out for its exceptional craftsmanship.<\/p>\n

The exhibition presents symbols of prosperity in an enchanting setting where light and space form a total work of art, juxtaposing precious pieces from the collection with simple natural objects. The Feuerle Collection embarks on a journey towards its 2026 10th Anniversary, inviting everyone to join us as we unveil hidden gems and inspiring objects along the way.<\/p>\n
